We used these words to generate possible project ideas.
At the end, we picked a set of 7 adverb-verbs that describe our project ideas. Work->Efficiently Touch->Softly Glance->Sensually Apply->Gently Style->Glamorously Shine->Passionately.
(1) “Elevator pitch” A recycle bin system that will credit the students that recycle their plastic/glass bottles.
(2) a. We have experience that the campus we were in not having enough recycling bin. Also we have observed that not all the people do recycling.
b. Managing out plastic waste has become an overwhelming task. There is never any time to store and return your empties plastic. What people usually do is just throw their plastic bottles to the garbage can.
c. The recycling bin can credit the student. This credit can be used in bookstore or tuition fees. Students and schools can profit from this system as students will be encouraged to recycle as they will get credit back to buy books and other items and schools will return the collection of pre-sorted bottles to a bottle depot to get money back.
d. The initial thought is to promote recycling culture starting from the University and expanding to offices and public places. Cultures have their own styles and beliefs. For example, in Hong Kong, recycling is non-existent and everything goes to waste. Therefore, we want this convenient recycling and refunding bin to influence the mass culture to do recycling.
One of the University students never had a reason to recycle before the Recycling Refund System. He only recycled whenever a bin was around. However, because there is cash back incentives for him to recycle, he would be more motivated to do it just to save few bucks back in his wallet. So this student bring his bottle to the Recycling and Refund Bin then he takes out his student card and put the card in the bin slot for the refund credits. After he puts his bottle in the bin the display screen shows his transaction summary of how much credits he has. After all he satisfies to earn the credits and it also motivates others for recycling.
The traditional sword belt (obi) is originally designed for holding the Katana (Japanese Sword) with Kimono/Hakama on. It’s hard to adjust the elasticity once it’s worn. If it’s too tie the ilium (innominate bone) would be hurt after sticking the sword in, especially for the beginner. It takes 3~5 minutes to tie the obi on, 10~15 minutes to finish wearing Kimono/Hakama full set. Although the obi can be worn without wearing the hakama, but it doesn’t look very fashion. The Adjustable Sword Belt is the solution to all those problems. It is designed for casual wear and casual practice, so it’s easy to wear and easy to adjust. It goes with every kind of clothing, it’s comfortable and held the katana stably.

(1) “The suit which feels like no other with great features and captivating style and comfort; it’s irresistible because it’s Couture.”
(2) a. Wearing the suit gives individuals confident in him/herself. The material used and cutting allows individuals to work efficiently without having to worry; such as their pants being cut in half, their jacket too heavy and hot causing them to sweat, or having to spill tea on their jacket.
b. The material is breathable, waterproof, and tear-proof which gives the individual a soft, elastic touch on skin and ease of movement
c. Not only is the suit light weighted but also comfortable and allow ease of movement during the summer
d. The suit is suitable for work and special occasions.
Ugly Spenser needs to purchase a new suit in the summer for work. He is looking for a suit which is breathable that won’t cause him to sweat under pressure, is waterproof due to his clumsiness, and is light and tear-proof which allow him to move at ease. He came to a store called Couture and found a suit that meets his needs and it came with extra features. He happily purchased the suit and not only he was hired instantly at the job applied but also he was able to get a date with a girl.
(1) “Effortlessly Stylish Wearable Technology for Athletes”
(2) a. experience: -Getting frustrated with wires -Nike+ only works well for runners -Bulky workout clothing, ugly workout clothing, uncomfortable
“Wearable technology designed to control electronic devices and record physiological data for users.”
b. sensory input: : Couture’s Athletic Wear responds to both touch input and possibly tactile input. By combining two types of hi-tech textiles, touch-sensitive textile and conductive fibers (collect analog signals).
c. action (what does it do? - output), By combining touch-sensitive textile with conductive fibers to the regular fiber, users can record his/her physiological data. (Physiological data such as Heart rate, respiration and body temperature) In addition, it acts as an activation panel that controls electronic devices such as an iPod and MP3 player.
d. context: play
(3) Create and upload a short story (or scenario) that relates the context to the inputs and outputs. Do this for EACH of the ideas. Your story/scenario should be in the form of a short paragraph.
Cindy has developed abnormalities in the shape and alignment of her legs and feet due to poor posture; which cause her lower leg muscles to overwork and create sore and aching legs when she tries to run. Cindy enjoys the conveniences of nike+; She loves to use nike+ to track her running progress and play music during her workout, but due to her condition, she can no longer use that particular device.
Nathan C: un-tethered mobile onsite video monitored system.
using exsisting Wi-Max infrastructure we can have network cameras powered by solar panels and storage cells, mounted on a spike/pole. and set up instantly anywhere a live feed.
Through the process of selection criteria that our team had set up, our three top project ideas are high-tech Business Suit combined with wearable technology for athletes, the minimal bicycle, and the un-tethered mobile on site video monitored system. And from the three ideas of what we chosen, we decided to use the Checklist technique to choose our winning idea. In our Checklist technique we compare the three different concepts and from what we had discussed as a team, we find that the high-tech clothing wear is more feasible and popular in the market. Through the series of steps that we’ve taken, which are identifying the task, time, technical and skills required, skill set, and value, we did not encounter any difficulties during the selection process. From discussions and brainstorms of feasibility to our knowledge and skill sets that we posses, we were able to look pass the hurdles and complete our tasks.
Going through the selection criteria and method process, we were able to grasp a well understanding and was satisfied with the results that we had gained. If we had to redo or modify our concepts, it will be unlikely that the results will come out differently. With many conditions that must be met, we need more information and time to do this project properly.
Mobile untethered video monitoring system. a) Substitute
Maybe instead of using Wi-max, we could use regular Wi-fi 802.11N which is adequate for a work site, shopping mall, and campus etc... Wi max is only needed for city wide aspect, where as nation wide we would use CDMA-1X ev-dv not do.
b) combine
We could in theory combine more than one protocol, but the power requirement might require us to modify the solar array. this requries further research
c) Adapt
The product can be adapted to each companies network infrastructure and is designed to be scalable
d) Magnify and Minimize
we can sell more simplified versions;
for example version without solar array for sites that have power onsite version without wireless for sites that have physical network connection onsite or maybe upgrade exsisting camera systems so they can run independently on a wireless network and on solar power
e) Put to other uses
This device can be used for:
remote managment Law enforcement crowd control security anti terrorism SWAT/ERT tactical team military applications national security monitoring secret service traffic monitoring new reporting animal conservation low impact environmental research telecommunications the list gose on and on and on
f) Eliminate and Elaborate
the are only 3 areas of focus, we can eliminate any one of the items and have it adaptable to 3rd party devices
the camera power supply network conection
g) Re-arrange and Reverse.
This is basically a meduim to large size input device, we can reverse this in to a out put device, so instead of a camera we can switch it to a low power consumption lcd screen giving people vital information during event or disasters that can be set up rite away.

Thanks Winson for posting Nathan's idea.
I was waiting for him to post something on this blog, but he seems to be pretty forgetful.
I am a little worry since this is Week 3 already and I have not heard or received anything from him via email/blog/discussion broad.
Week 3 stuff is up! Check it out guys, please let me know if I missed anything. Thank you Spense and Winson for doing your part.
